It looks like a plastic Bonsai tree whose “leaves” are actually 27 miniature solar panels and it will charge your mobile device using nothing more than the sunlight streaming in through your window.
The Electree will also no doubt be a conversation piece for your home and it also doubles up as an item of modern sculpture.
Well that is the good news as far as this device goes.
The bad news is that it costs €299 (US$387) and it can take up to 36 hours to build up enough electricity to charge your mobile device (depending on the weather.)
The Electree can charge any USB device and users can position each of the solar panel leaves to point towards the Sun so that it works at maximum efficiency.
It is the creation of French designer Vivien Muller who spent three years working on the solar tree.
He says on his website:
“The tree comes in modules which is delivered in modules which you assemble to create your own tree. This method makes it possible to produce an infinity of different shapes. You can model it according to your wishes and at the same time optimize the orientation of the photovoltaic cells and thus increase its effectiveness.”
